Vodafone’s IoT Blockchain Partnership with Aventus Aims to Revolutionize Cargo Tracking
Internet of Things (IoT)-based revolutionary cargo tracking solutions will be made available by Vodafone’s Digital Asset Broker (DAB) subsidiary in a ground-breaking partnership with the Aventus blockchain network. With a potential annual loss of up to $400 million, lost cargo pods are becoming a growing worry, which is what the cooperation wants to address.
A straightforward but effective SIM card that is included into the cargo pod’s hardware serves as the brain of DAB’s cargo tracking system. Due to the integration of a DAB IoT identity passport, this SIM card becomes a DAB SIM. As the cargo pod travels its course, data will be logged on the blockchain layer, forming what Vodafone refers to as a “blockchain of blockchains.”
One of the many blockchains integrated with DAB is the Aventus Network, which runs as a parachain atop the open Polkadot network. Every parachain has a unique group of validators, and Vodafone is slated to join the Aventus network. Aventus has successfully managed devices to track luggage, freight, and mail for Heathrow Airport through the use of its blockchain technology.
The CEO of Vodafone DAB, Jorge Bento, expressed excitement about the collaboration with Aventus and stated that it will make it possible for companies and outside providers to adopt and use Web3 services safely on the Vodafone DAB platform. The alliance intends to explore various other prospects with Aventus in the future, so meeting airlines’ needs is just the first step.
It is important to note that using blockchain technology for cargo pod tracking is not new. An industry organization called SITA successfully tested blockchain three years ago to track Unit Load Devices.
Vodafone is using its strategic partnership with Sumitomo Corporation to increase the scope of its automotive-related endeavors. The alliance hopes to create applications for fleet toll payments, pay-as-you-drive automobile rentals, and electric vehicle charging.
Vodafone’s cargo monitoring service offers an effective and secure way to follow cargo pods throughout their voyage, drastically decreasing losses and damages. It does this by merging IoT with blockchain. This partnership’s advantages are anticipated to spread across numerous industries, improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Vodafone continues to take the lead in revolutionizing the logistics and automotive industries and ushering in a new era of innovation and digitization thanks to its innovative approach to integrating blockchain technology.
