UPI processes over 500 million daily transactions in September: NPCI

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) network processed over 500 million daily transactions in September, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

The value of transactions stayed above the ₹20 lakh crore mark for the fifth consecutive month.

Average daily transaction values hit ₹68,800 crore in September, up from ₹66,475 crore in August.

Compared to the same period last year, UPI transactions surged 31% to ₹20.64 lakh crore.

Commenting on the data, Sunil Rongala, Senior Vice President, Head – Strategy, Innovation & Analytics, Worldline India, said, “The September UPI transaction numbers reflect, once again, how UPI has become a part and parcel of digital transactions in India. It has been embraced as the payment of choice among millions of buyers as well as merchants. The most interesting aspect is that while the value of transactions remained constant at ₹20.64 lakh crore, the number of transactions jumped from 14.44 billion in July to 15.04 billion in September, highlighting UPI’s growing use for microtransactions.”

Other digital payment platforms also showed steady performance.

FASTag transactions remained unchanged at 11 million daily, but the value rose to ₹187 crore per day, up from ₹181 crore in August.

The Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) saw daily transaction volumes increase to 100 million in September, with the value of these transactions rising to ₹805 crore a day, compared to ₹796 crore in August.
