Sensex crash: The Indian stock market looks set to close this week with hefty losses. The benchmark Sensex has plunged over 3,500 points this week, while the Nifty has declined to get closer to its 200-day exponential moving average (DEMA) of around 23,700.
On Friday, December 20, the Sensex opened at 79,335.48 against its previous close of 79,218.05 and dropped over 800 points, or over 1 per cent, to the day’s low of 78,398.84. The Nifty 50 opened at 23,960.70 against its previous close of 23,951.70 and dropped nearly 250 points, or 1 per cent, to 23,711.75.
The Sensex and the Nifty 50 have been falling for the last five consecutive sessions. Considering Friday’s low, the Sensex is now down over 3,700 points, or nearly 5 per cent, this week. The Nifty 50 is set to close the week with a loss of over 4 per cent.
